What have our mothers taught us about strengthening our roots? With so much energy spent nurturing how are we nurturing ourselves? Who nurtures us?

The Love Dare

"Love is a decision and not just a feeling."

Just recently I sat down to watch the movie "Fireproof."  I was so moved, not by the acting necessarily ;) - but by the message this movie offered.  

It has been a long time since I walked away from a movie wanting to change something in my life for the better.  This movie did just that.  

While this movie is centered around a marriage relationship, the "Love Dare" concepts could really be applied to any important relationship.  And quite honestly, a relationship doesn't need to be in "turmoil" to benefit from this read!  

For the next 40 days 

I will be adding a new sidebar (to the right) titled 

"The Love Dare." 

Everyday will include a new dare 

from the book, "The Love Dare."

The Love Dare serves to strengthen our relationships' by choosing how to treat those special to us.  It isn't about changing the other person!  It is about allowing God to open and change our own heart.

The first page of the book states,

"Receive this as a warning.  

This forty day journey cannot 

be taken lightly.

It is challenging and often 

difficult process,  but an incredibly 

fulfilling one.  To take this dare 

requires a resolute mind and a 

steadfast determination.

It is not meant to be sampled or briefly 

tested, and those who quit early will 

forfeit the greatest benefits.  If you 

will commit to a day at a time for forty 

days, the results could change your 

life and your marriage.

Consider it a dare, from others 

who have done it before you."

And by the way, is it just me or does Kirk Cameron look as those he hasn't aged a bit?!  But that's another topic for another day. LOL!

Our Purpose

This blog is dedicated to women and the strength that comes from our daily lives to our most trying moments. This blog is about sharing strength.  Our hope for this blog is to reach out and learn from one another. We want this to be an arena of hope and expression, where we can feel free to share our experiences and vulnerabilities without reservation.

The following poem by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr. is a perfect example of an Oak Tree and how it relates to us: 

The Oak Tree

A mighty wind blew night and day.

It stole the Oak Tree's leaves away.

Then snapped its boughs

and pulled its bark

until the Oak was tired and stark.

But still the Oak Tree held its ground

while other trees fell all around.

The weary wind gave up and spoke,

"How can you still be standing Oak?"

The Oak Tree said, I know that you

can break each branch of mine in two,

carry every leaf away,

shake my limbs and make me sway.

But I have roots stretched in the earth,

growing stronger since my birth.

You'll never touch them, for you see

they are the deepest part of me.

Until today, I wasn't sure

of just how much I could endure.

But now I've found with thanks to you,

I'm stronger than I ever knew.

In a world full of uncertainty and disappointments, we can face each day with faith, optimism, and hopefully, some humor! Each one of us carries wisdom developed from strife. We want to tap into that wisdom that keeps our roots steady when the winds come. That's the lesson of the Oak Tree. Those are the lessons we want to share.

We will have weekly topics where a well-rounded forum of contributors will share their thoughts and experiences. The posts will range from the profound to the laugh-out-loud funny depending on the personality and mood of the contributor.
