The list you're referring to is called The Big Read. The BBC asked the people of England to nominated their best loved books. This list is the top 100 results of that survey. The actual list is somewhat different, but very similar, to the list that was emailed to you. You can see it at

Well, out of those 100 I have read 15 - I have started a few others on the list but have not finished them. Very interesting to see what people name as their "best loved" books.
